Citibeats Selected as Technology Pioneer 2022 by World Economic Forum
It’s been a banner year for Citibeats. After launching its Sustainability and Social Risk monitors and being recognized as one of the “five best startups in the world” at #4YFN22, the Barcelona-based company has now been selected as one of the World Economic Forum’s Technology Pioneers.
“Being acknowledged as a Technology Pioneer by World Economic Forum is a real honor for Citibeats,” said Citibeats’ CEO and Founder Ivan Caballero. “It is like a seal of quality, a trust badge that confirms and further validates the value of our technology and our ethical approach towards AI.”
The World Economic Forum’s Technology Pioneers are early-to-growth-stage companies from around the world that are involved in the use of new technologies and innovations. The Forum incorporates these companies, poised to have a significant impact on business and society, into its initiatives, activities, and events, where they bring cutting-edge insights to world-critical discussions. Past Technology Pioneers include Airbnb, bluebird bio, Bloom Energy, Cyberdyne, Editas Medicine, Foundation Medicine, Google, Kaggle, Kickstarter, Mozilla, Palantir Technologies, Proteus Digital Health, Scribd, Spotify, Twitter, and Wikimedia.
Citibeats—which leverages an ethical artificial intelligence platform, combining natural language processing and machine learning, to detect and understand societal changes—is the first Barcelona-based company honored as a Technology Pioneer.
The 2022 honorees hail from 30 economies on six continents and seek to tackle issues like climate change, sustainability, health care, and more. See the full list of Technology Pioneers here.
Citibeats: A Beacon for Ethical AI in the Tech Industry
The Technology Pioneer designation affirms Citibeats’ status as a leader in the tech industry. Citibeats, founded in 2018 by Caballero to help policy- and decision-makers understand how society changes in real time, works with the World Health Organization, Inter-American Development Bank, United Nations (specifically UNESCO and UNDP), and World Bank on large projects across many countries.
Now, Citibeats will be invited to participate in World Economic Forum activities, events, and discussions throughout the year. Citibeats will also support and advise global leaders to help address key industry and societal issues over the next two years.

This honor, one of the most important in the company’s short but impactful history, comes at a time when the need for ethical AI and a better understanding of societal changes has never been greater.
Citizens around the globe exchange data, ideas, concerns, and wishes at a remarkable pace. With the emergence of 5G networks and the proliferation of social media, technology is not slowing down anytime soon. Corporations and government leaders struggle to stay ahead of the ever-evolving digital landscape, particularly around topics related to sustainability and social risk. The future of society depends on trustful data and effective decision-making.
Citibeats addresses this challenge through ethical AI. Its platform combines deep technology with crowd intelligence to organize quality data. Cititbeats’ Social Risk and Sustainability monitors help leaders in the private and public sectors identify citizens’ concerns and societal trends as they emerge.
Citibeats enables social understanding, rather than social listening:
- It analyzes real-time data from social media, blog posts, comments, forums, and much more.
- It mitigates bias.
- It leverages multilingual intent detectors.
- It builds micro- and macro-narratives based on content.
- It gives users the ability to customize social indexes, such as inflation, innovation for productivity, and polarization.
- It features evolving learning from just a few seed words.
The result is a platform that brings humanity back to decision-making.
“We like to see ourselves as an enabler of positive social impact. Our platform is the definitive technology to help cover the gap existing between citizens and policy- and decision-makers,” says Caballero. “Citibeats is not a social movement. It is a conscious, mature, thoughtful, and human-centered technology company that is changing the world for the better, step by step, every day.”
As one of its first responsibilities as a Technology Pioneer, Citibeats has been invited to the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2022, May 22-26. The company will join more than 2,000 leaders committed to improving the state of the world in Davos-Klosters, Switzerland, under the theme, “History at a Turning Point: Government Policies and Business Strategies.”
